In recent years there has been an upsurge of using toys as mental health tools in adults. From fidget spinners to adult coloring books, they have been part of a mental health revolution. Toys, games and especially dolls aren’t just for kids – particularly when we’re talking about reborn dolls.

But what is a reborn doll, and how can it help?
A reborn doll is an exquisitely crafted art doll which has been custom made to look as close as possible to a human child. They can be utterly unique, just like a real child and make for wonderful collectors items. Not to mention, these mini masterpieces are great for mental health in both men and women.

Attachment
According to Emilie St Hilaire, a humanities PhD student at Concordia University in Montreal reborn dolls and their adoptive owners “a kind of synthetic relationship”. This means that they symbolise a relationship to some people, which brings them comfort and prevents loneliness. This lowers things like depression and anxiety.

Extended bonds
Beyond the bond themselves with the doll, the community is also very welcoming. Community is excellent or mental health and has been proven to increase interaction, connectivity and build a support network. Humans are social creatures which means that they thrive on these connections.

Cuddling benefits
First of all, reborn dolls aren’t cold plastic. Their skin has a small amount of bounce and give, making cuddling them as lifelike as holding a real child. According to Hilaire “There’s comfort in cuddling and physically holding something that feels like a baby, even though it’s not a baby... It can release some of the same endorphins.” These are the happiness hormones.

Grieving
Whether they have lost the child or agreeing with back to have they cannot conceive these those are very useful in helping with the grief process. They make wonderful surrogates as well as being a regular comforter.

Dementia
In later life dementia can be a significant problem and we all want to know ways in which we can come to our loved ones when they experience something like this. The latest research shows that doll play is one of those things which can be of help. Not only are they comforting but they have proven to help with memory increase. The realest look of the types of doll improved that result tenfold.

Infertility related depression
Although many collectors have children themselves, there is a niche of people who cannot have children who benefit greatly from having a reborn. For those who crave to be mothers but simply cannot, the reborn is an excellent surrogate. This lowers depression and allows these people to fulfil parenthood. Results have been particularly good in the trans community who do not always have the biological ability to have children traditionally, as well as severe sufferers of poly cystic ovary syndrome.

Retail therapy
It might not seem like top of the list but retail therapy is an option, and with a reborn you have all the opportunities you could dream of to buy cute outfits, accessories and release some endorphins.

What are you waiting for? Adopt a reborn today and see a special part of your life blossom.
